After Hillel, we finally began our journey and found the nearest gas station. With a full tank of gas, we headed off towards Knoxville, Tn. Unfortunately, this got sidetracked when Jordana missed the first highway turn-off and took Jeremy on his first tour of Washington D.C. After another 30 minutes of driving, we finally got our kicks on route 66 (cheesy song quote, quoted by Jeremy Kramer). As we left D.C. we saw our first exciting on the road traveler, the Dragon Tails dragons!! As we continued on our journey we both were shocked to see on the other side of the highway a naked (what we think to be) 4 year-old boy. With his pants down around his ankles he began to pee on the side of the road with his father standing guard in the open. We died laughing and continued on our way.
Dont drive this drive during the week day, all we hit was construction after construction. We learned a new type of construction work-blasting at mile mark 121-still have no idea what it is. ..with our country music still blasting loud and clear we continued south west towards Knoxville. We stopped to get gas again at some random hick place. We drove around a few bends and saw a few giant bellys to go with the gas station. On our way to the station we encountered what we found to be a real-life frogger game. Trying to get across 2 highways was not an easy feat. We made ourselves lunch consisting of a piece of bread and a half a piece of swiss cheese. Cleaning off the family of insects that had sadly died on our windshield along the way, we continued on our journey.
While back on our way along route 66, we saw a lot of headlights in the rear view mirror and could only think of one thing they could be: a group of HOGS. not pigs but harley davidsons hahaa... they quickly approached and soon began taking videos of themselves while riding. We were really scared!
Jeremy was tired a lot of the way and made me drive most of the 8 hour journey. He says it was 70-30, with him doing 30 percent of the work. Tomorrow though, he said he would make up for his lack of effort today. Virginia is the worst state to drive through and so long! Warning: DONT EVER DO IT! As we were coming closer to Knoxville, we saw a long yellow bus in front of us. Curiosity got the best of us and we slowly inched up closer to the bus. What was it?1 THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE!! we think it was heading to Nashville and unfortunately our trip ended at Knoxville for the day. We pulled up to the hotel hoping that we would be able to walk around and venture into downtown, unfortunately, we are in the middle of nowhere. I blame my mom but ill forgive for this one. We dropped off our stuff and decided to see what was around. Our first stop was to the grocery store-Food Mart. here we got food and drinks and are making ourselves at home to watch the Mavs-Thunder game 4. When we checked into the hotel we saw these ladies trying to find their reservations along with the correct room setup. We didnt think twice about it. However, upon our return from our adventure to Food City, we found the ladies taking the two rooms across from ours. We opened our door and they screamed, you have 2 doubles! We said yes we do, they jokingly/seriously asked if we needed them and wanted to switch rooms and take their single king. We didnt answer. but Jeremy uncomfortably walked away, and I quickly closed the door. So now we are back in the hotel getting our dinner of salad and turkey sandwiches ready and watching Jeremy trying to open a beer with a dollar bill.
Thats our day one of our uncomfortable journey to Dallas...we will report back tomorrow after our day in Nashville and arrival in Memphis.
